Side Effects

Along with its needing effects, a drug may cause some unwanted effects. Although not all of these side effects may occur, if they do occur they may need medical attention.

Symptoms of “red man syndrome” Less common

Chills or fever; fainting; fast heartbeat; hives; itching; low blood pressure; nausea or vomiting; rash or redness of the face, base of neck, upper body, back and arms Note:

Symptoms of the “red man syndrome” are more common when vancomycin is given by direct or rapid injection.

The above side effects, except the “red man syndrome,” are more likely to occur in the elderly, who are usually more sensitive to the effects of vancomycin.

More common side effects not listed above may also occur in some diseaseds. If you have any other problems, check with your family doctor.
