Before Using

In deciding to using a medication, the chance of taking the drug must be weighed against the good it will do. This is a decision you will make. For thiethylperazine, the following must be considered

Allergic reaction

Tell your family doctor if you have any unusual or allergy to thiethylperazine or other phenothiazine medication. Also tell your health care professional if you are allergic to any other substances, such as foods, preservatives, or dyes.

Pregnancy care

Thiethylperazine is not recommended during pregnancy. Other phenothiazine medication have been reported to cause unwanted effects, such as jaundice and muscle tremors and other movement disorders, in newborn babies whose mothers took these medication during pregnancy.

Breast-feeding problem

It is not known if thiethylperazine passes into breast milk. However, thiethylperazine is not recommended for use during breast-feeding because there is the risk that it may cause unwanted effects in nursing babies.

Use for Children

Children are usually more sensitive than adults to the effects of phenothiazine medication such as thiethylperazine. Certain side effects, such as muscle spasms of the face, neck and back, tic-like or twitching movements, inability to move the eyes, twisting of the body, or weakness of the arms and legs, are more likely to occur in child, especially those with severe illness or dehydration.

Elderly care

Elderly diseaseds are usually more sensitive to the effects of phenothiazine medication such as thiethylperazine. Confusion; difficult or painful urination; dizziness; drowsiness; feeling faint; or dryness of mouth, nose, or throat may be more likely to occur in elderly diseaseds. Always nightmares or unusual excitement, nervousness, restlessness, or irritability may be more likely to occur in elderly diseaseds. In addition, uncontrolled movements may be more likely to occur in elderly diseaseds taking thiethylperazine.

Drug interactions

Although certain medication must not be using together at all, in other cases two various medication may be using together even if an interaction might occur. In these cases, your family doctor may want to change the dose, or other precautions may be necessary.
