Before Using
In deciding to using a medication,
the problems of uses this drugs must be weighed against the good it will do.
This is a decision you will make. For topical tetracyclines,
the following must be considered
Allergic reaction
Tell your family doctor if you have any unusual or
allergy to topical tetracyclines or to any related antibiotics,
such as chlortetracycline for the eye - Aureomycin; demeclocycline -
Declomycin; doxycycline - Vibramycin; methacycline - Rondomycin;
minocycline - Minocin; oxytetracycline - Terramycin; or tetracycline
by mouth or by injection - Achromycin. In addition, if you are to use
the cream form of meclocycline, tell your family doctor if you have any
unusual or allergy to formaldehyde. Also tell your health care professional
if you are allergic to any other substances, such as preservatives or dyes.
Pregnancy care
Studies have not been done. In studies
in rats and rabbits, chlortetracycline and tetracycline topical preparations
have not been shown to cause birth defects or other problems. However, studies
in rabbits have shown meclocycline to cause a slight delay in bone formation.
Breast-feeding problem
It is not known whether tetracycline topical preparations
pass into breast milk. Although most medication pass into breast milk in small
amounts, many of them may be using safely while breast-feeding. Mothers who
are using any of these medication and who wish to breast-feed must discuss
this with their family doctor.
Use for Children
Tetracycline topical solution has been tested on
a limited number of children 11 years of age or older and has not been shown
to cause various side effects or problems in child than it does in adults.
Although there is no special info about the use of topical chlortetracycline
or topical meclocycline in child, they are not expected to cause various
side effects or problems in child than they do in adults.
Elderly care
Many medication have not been tested in elderly people.
Therefore, it may not be known whether they work exactly the same way they
do in adults people or if they cause various side effects or problems in
elderly people. There is no special info about the use of topical tetracyclines
in the elderly.
Drug interactions
Although certain medication must not be using
together at all, in other cases two various medication may be using together
even if an interaction might occur. In these cases, your family doctor may want to
change the dose, or other precautions may be necessary. When you are using
topical tetracyclines, it is important that your health care professional
knows if you are using any other topical prescription or nonprescription - over-the-counter
