Studies in rats have shown that long-term use of sulfonamides may cause cancer of the thyroid gland. In addition, studies in rats have shown that sulfonamides may increase the risk of goiters - noncancerous tumors of the thyroid gland.
Along with its needing effects, a drug may cause some unwanted effects. Although not all of these side effects may occur, if they do occur they may need medical attention.

Itching, burning, skin rash, redness, swelling, or other sign of irritation not present before use of this drug
Rare
Burning at site of application
Other side effects may occur that usually don't needed medical attention. These side effects may go away during treat as your body adjusts to the drug. However, check with your family doctor if either of the following side effects continues or is bothersome:
Less common or rare
Rash or irritation of penis of sexual partner
