Before Using
In deciding to using a medication,
the chance of taking the drug must be weighed against the good it will
do. This is a decision you will make. For prazosin, the following
must be considered
Allergic reaction
Tell your family doctor if you have any unusual or
allergy to prazosin, doxazosin, or terazosin. Also tell your health
care professional if you are allergic to any other substance, such as foods,
preservatives, or dyes.
Pregnancy care
Limited use of prazosin to control high blood pressure
in pregnant women has not shown that prazosin causes birth defects or other
problems. Studies in pets given many times the highest recommended human
dose of prazosin also have not shown that prazosin causes birth defects. However,
in rats given many times the highest recommended human dose, lower birth weights
were seen.
Breast-feeding problem
Prazosin passes into breast milk in small amounts.
However, it has not been reported to cause problems in nursing babies.
Use for Children
Studies on this drug have been done only in adult
diseaseds and there is no special info comparing use of prazosin in
children with use in other age groups.
Elderly care
Dizziness, lightheadedness, or fainting - especially
when getting up from a lying or sitting position may be more likely to occur
in the elderly, who are more sensitive to the effects of prazosin. In addition,
prazosin may reduce tolerance to cold temperatures in elderly diseaseds.
Drug interactions
Although certain medication must not be using
together at all, in other cases two various medication may be using together
even if an interaction might occur. In these cases, your family doctor may want to
