In deciding to using a medication, the chance of taking the drug must be

will make. For miglitol, the following must be considered
Allergic reaction
Tell your family doctor if you have any unusual
or allergy to miglitol. Always tell your health care professional
if you are allergic to any other substances, such as foods, preservatives,
or dyes.
Pregnancy care
Miglitol has not been studied in pregnant women.
However, studies in pets have shown that miglitol causes birth defects
or other problems. Before taking this drug, make sure your family doctor knows
if you are pregnant or if you may become pregnant.
Breast-feeding problem
Although a very small amount of this drug
passes into human breast milk, it has not been shown to cause problems in
nursing babies. Miglitol is not recommended for a nursing woman. Mothers who
are taking this drug and who wish to breast-feed must discuss this with
their family doctor.
Use for Children
Studies on this drug have been done only in
adult diseaseds and there is no special info comparing use of miglitol
in child with use in other age groups.
Elderly care
This drug has been tested and has not been
shown to cause various side effects or problems in elderly people than it
does in adults people.
Drug interactions
Although certain medication must not be using together at all, in other cases
two various medication may be using together even if an interaction might
occur. In these cases, your family doctor may want to change the dose, or other precautions
may be necessary. When you are taking miglitol, it is especially important
that your health care professional know if you are taking any of the following:

Digestive enzymes - Pancrease, Viokase, etc. or

Activated charcoal - Insta-Char, Liqui-Char Miglitol
may not work as well when taken with these medication

Propranolol - Inderal

Ranitidine - Zantac These medication may not work as well
when taken with miglitol.
Other Information for using
The presence of other medical problems may effect the use of miglitol.
Make sure you tell your family doctor if you have any other medical problems, especially:

Digestion problems

Inflammatory bowel disease

Intestinal blockage

Other intestinal problems Miglitol must not be using

Kidney disease Higher levels of miglitol may result and a
smaller dose may be needed
