Before Using

Methoxsalen is a very strong drug that increases the skin's sensitivity to sunlight. In addition to causing serious sunburns if not properly using, it has been reported to increase the risk of skin cancer and cataracts. Always like too much sunlight, PUVA can cause premature aging of the skin. Therefore, methoxsalen must be using only as directed and it must not be using simply for suntanning. Before using this drug, be sure that you have discussed its use with your family doctor.

In deciding to using a medication, the problems of uses this drugs must be weighed against the good it will do. This is a decision you will make. For methoxsalen, the following must be considered

Allergic reaction

Tell your family doctor if you have any unusual or allergy to methoxsalen. Also tell your health care professional if you are allergic to any other substances, such as foods, preservatives, or dyes.

Diet Eating certain foods while you are taking methoxsalen may increase your skin's sensitivity to sunlight. To help prevent this, avoid eating limes, figs, parsley, parsnips, mustard, carrots and celery while you are being treated with this drug.

Pregnancy care

Studies on effects in pregnancy have not been done in either humans or pets.

Breast-feeding problem

It is not known whether methoxsalen passes into breast milk. Although most medication pass into breast milk in small amounts, many of them may be using safely while breast-feeding. Mothers who are using this drug and who wish to breast-feed must discuss this with their family doctor.

Use for Children

Some of the side effects are more likely to occur in child up to 12 years of age, since these children may be more sensitive to the effects of methoxsalen.

Elderly care

Many medication have not been studied specifically in elderly people. Therefore, it may not be known whether they work exactly the same way they do in adults people or if they cause various side effects or problems in elderly people. There is no special info comparing use of methoxsalen in the elderly with use in other age groups.
