Before Using
In deciding to using a medication,
the chance of taking the drug must be weighed against the good it will
do. This is a decision you will make. For maprotiline, the
following must be considered
Allergic reaction
Tell your family doctor if you have any unusual or
allergy to maprotiline or tricyclic antidepressants. Also tell your
health care professional if you are allergic to any other substances, such
as foods, preservatives, or dyes.
Pregnancy care
Maprotiline has not been studied in pregnant women.
However, this drug has not been shown to cause birth defects or other
problems in animal studies.
Breast-feeding problem
Maprotiline passes into the breast milk. However,
this drug has not been reported to cause problems in nursing babies.
Use for Children
Studies on this drug have been done only in adult
diseaseds and there is no special info comparing use of maprotiline
in child with use in other age groups.
Elderly care
Drowsiness, dizziness or lightheadedness; confusion;
vision problems; dryness of mouth; constipation; and difficulty in urinating
may be especially likely to occur in elderly diseaseds, who are usually more
sensitive than adults people to the effects of maprotiline.
Drug interactions
Although certain medication must not be using
together at all, in other cases two various medication may be using together

maprotiline while you are taking or within 2 weeks of taking monoamine oxidase
- MAO inhibitors may cause very serious side effects, such as sudden high
body temperature, extremely high blood pressure and severe convulsions; at
least 14 days must be allowed between stopping treat with one drug
and starting treat with the other
