Ifosfamide - eye-FOS-fa-mide belongs to the group of medication called alkylating agents. It is using to treat cancer of the testicles as well as some other kinds of cancer. Another drug, called mesna, is usually given along with ifosfamide to prevent bladder problems that can be causing by ifosfamide.
Ifosfamide interferes with the growth of cancer cells, which are eventually destroyed. Since the growth of normal body cells may also be effected by ifosfamide, other effects will also occur. Some of these may be serious and must be reported to your family doctor. Other effects, like hair loss, may not be serious but may cause concern. Some effects may not occur until months or years after the drug is using.
Before you begin treat with ifosfamide, you and your family doctor must talk about the good this drug will do as well as the chance of using it.
