How to Use

Follow carefully the special meal plan your family doctor gave you. This is the most important part of controlling your condition and is necessary if the drug is to work properly. Always exercise regularly and test for sugar in your blood or urine as directed.

Glyburide and metformin combination must be taken with meals to help reduce the gastrointestinal side effects that may occur during the first few weeks of treat.

Dosage

• For oral dosage form - tablets:
  • For type 2 diabetes:
    • For first-time treat:
      • Adults: At first, 1.25 milligrams - mg of glyburide and 250 mg of metformin one or two times a day with meals. Then, your family doctor may increase your dose a little at a time every two weeks until your blood sugar is controlled.
      • Children: Use and dose must be determined by your family doctor.
    • For diseaseds previously treated with a sulfonylurea antidiabetic agent andmetformin:
      • Adults: At first, 2.5 mg of glyburide and 500 mg of metformin or 5 mg of glyburide and 500 mg of metformin two times a day, with the morning and evening meals. Then, your family doctor may increase your dose a little at a time until your blood sugar is controlled.
      • Children: Use and dose must be determined by your family doctor.

Storage To store this drug:

• Keep out of the reach of children.
• Do not store in the bathroom, near the kitchen sink, or in other damp places. Heat or moisture may cause the drug to break down.
• Keep the drug from freezing. Do not refrigerate.
• Do not keep outdated drug or drug no longer needed. Ask your health care professional how you must dispose of any drug you do not use. Be sure that any discarded drug is out of the reach of children.
