How to Use

Dosage

The number of tablets that you take depends on the strength of the drug. Always the number of doses you take each day, the time allowed between doses and the length of time you take the drug depend on the medical problem for which you are taking dolasetron .

• For oral dosage form - tablets:
  • For prevention of nausea and vomiting after anticancer drug:
    • Adults 100 milligrams - mg given within one hour before the anticancer drug is given.
    • Children 2 to 16 years of age 1.8 mg per kilogram - kg - 0.82 mg per pound of body weight given within one hour before the anticancer drug is given. The dose generally is not greater than 100 mg.
    • Children up to 2 years of age Use and dose must be determined by your family doctor.
  • For prevention of nausea and vomiting after surgery:
    • Adults 100 mg given within two hours before surgery.
    • Children 2 to 16 years of age 1.2 mg per kg - 0.55 mg per pound of body weight given within two hours before surgery. The dose generally is not greater than 100 mg.
    • Children up to 2 years of age Use and dose must be determined by your family doctor.
• For injection dosage form:
  • For prevention of nausea and vomiting after anticancer drug:
    • Adults 100 milligrams - mg given into a vein approximately 30 minutes before the anticancer drug is given.
    • Children 2 to 16 years of age 1.8 mg per kilogram - kg - 0.82 mg per pound of body weight given into a vein approximately 30 minutes before the anticancer drug is given. The dose generally is not greater than 100 mg.
    • Children up to 2 years of age Use and dose must be determined by your family doctor.
  • For prevention of nausea and vomiting after surgery:
    • Adults 12.5 mg given into a vein approximately 15 minutes before anesthesia - drug to put you to sleep during surgery is ended.
    • Children 2 to 16 years of age 0.35 mg per kg - 0.16 mg per pound of body weight given into a vein approximately 15 minutes before anesthesia - drug to put you to sleep during surgery is ended. The dose generally is not greater than 12.5 mg.
    • Children up to 2 years of age Use and dose must be determined by your family doctor.
  • For treat of nausea and vomiting after surgery:
    • Adults 12.5 mg given into a vein as soon as nausea and vomiting start.
    • Children 2 to 16 years of age 0.35 mg per kg - 0.16 mg per pound of body weight given into a vein as soon as nausea and vomiting start. The dose generally is not greater than 12.5 mg.
    • Children up to 2 years of age Use and dose must be determined by your family doctor.

Storage To store this drug:

• Keep out of the reach of children.
• Store away from heat and direct light.
• Do not store in the bathroom, near the kitchen sink, or in other damp places. Heat or moisture may cause the drug to break down.
• Keep the drug from freezing. Do not refrigerate.
• Do not keep outdated drug or drug no longer needed. Be sure that any discarded drug is out of the reach of children.
