How to Use

Take this drug only as directed by your family doctor . Do not take more of it, do not take it more often and do not take it for a longer period of time than your family doctor ordered. To do so may increase the risk of side effects.

To lessen stomach upset, take this drug with meals or immediately after meals, unless otherwise directed by your family doctor.

Dosage

The dose of antidyskinetics will be various for various diseaseds Follow your family doctor's orders or the directions on the label . The following information includes only the average doses of benztropine, biperiden, ethopropazine, procyclidine, and trihexyphenidyl If your dose is various, do not change it unless your family doctor tells you to do so.

The number of capsules, tablets, or teaspoonfuls of elixir that you take depends on the strength of the drug. Always the number of doses you take each day, the time allowed between doses and the length of time you take the drug depend on the medical problem for which you are taking antidyskinetics .

For benztropine

For oral dosage forms - tablets:
- For Parkinson's disease or certain severe side effects causing by some other medication:
  - Adults To start, 0.5 to 4 milligrams - mg a day, depending on your condition. Your family doctor will adjust your dose as needed; however, the dose is usually not more than 6 mg a day.
  - Children Use and dose must be determined by your family doctor.
For injection dosage form:
- For Parkinson's disease or certain severe side effects causing by some other medication:
  - Adults 1 to 4 mg a day, depending on your condition. Your family doctor will adjust your dose as needed; however, the dose is usually not more than 6 mg a day.
  - Children Use and dose must be determined by your family doctor.

For biperiden

For oral dosage forms - tablets:
- For Parkinson's disease or certain severe side effects causing by some other medication:
  - Adults 2 mg up to four times a day. Your family doctor will adjust your dose, depending on your condition; however, the dose is usually not more than 16 mg a day.
  - Children Use and dose must be determined by your family doctor.
For injection dosage form:
- For Parkinson's disease or certain severe side effects causing by some other medication:
  - Adults 2 mg, injected into a muscle or vein. The dose may be repeated if needed; however, the dose is usually not given more than four times a day.
  - Children Use and dose is based on body weight and must be determined by your family doctor.

For ethopropazine

For oral dosage forms - tablets:
- For Parkinson's disease or certain severe side effects causing by some other medication:
  - Adults 50 mg one or two times a day. Your family doctor will adjust your dose as needed; however, the dose is usually not more than 600 mg a day.
  - Children Use and dose must be determined by your family doctor.

For procyclidine

For oral dosage forms - elixir or tablets:
- For Parkinson's disease or certain severe side effects causing by some other medication:
  - Adults To start, 2.5 mg three times a day after meals. Your family doctor may need to adjust your dose, depending on your condition.
  - Children Use and dose must be determined by your family doctor.

For trihexyphenidyl

For extended-release oral dosage forms - extended-release capsules:
- For Parkinson's disease or certain severe side effects causing by some other medication:
  - Adults 5 mg after breakfast. Your family doctor may add another 5 mg dose to be taken twelve hours later, depending on your condition.
  - Children: Use and dose must be determined by your family doctor.
For other oral dosage forms - elixir or tablets:
- For Parkinson's disease or certain severe side effects causing by some other medication:
  - Adults To start, 1 to 2 mg a day. Your family doctor may adjust your dose as needed; however, the dose is usually not more than 15 mg a day.
  - Children Use and dose must be determined by your family doctor.

Missed dose If you miss a dose of this drug, take it as soon as possible. However, if it is within 2 hours of your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular dosing schedule. Do not double doses.

Storage To store this drug:

Keep out of the reach of children.
Store away from heat and direct light.
Do not store the capsule or tablet form of this drug in the bathroom, near the kitchen sink, or in other damp places. Heat or moisture may cause the drug to break down.
Keep the liquid form of this drug from freezing.
Do not keep outdated drug or drug no longer needed. Be sure that any discarded drug is out of the reach of children.
